In the poem "to his coy mistress" the author expresses his feelings about the female in a desirable manner, "two hundred to adore each breast, but thirty thousand to the rest." The female still maintains a virgin and therefor thats his goal to take it.
In the poem "my life has stood- a loaded gun" was a bit confusing. The author may be talking about the master who may be a male or can be a dog, " and when at night-our good day done- I guard my masters head-" Yet again he could be talking about a male that is in control of the females life.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thought that there may be a pet involved.
ReplyDeleteHow should the reader interpret the first line, and title of the poem "My Life Had Stood- a loaded gun"(Dickinson 1)? Is the speaker whose life is a "loaded gun" the dog?
