A Doll's House: Act 3 by Frances Ferreira

It was really sad how Nora suddenly decided to abondon everything and that it only took one conversation with her husband to go from seeing him as the man she's known and loved for over eight years to seeing him as a complete stranger and then says to his face that she no longer loves him. What I am not clear with is, what exactly made Nora react this way? It was so unexpected and she immediately made the decision to leave him. She even asked to exchange their rings which was a sign that she wants nothing to do with him anymore. I perceived Torvald very heartbroken; it all happened too quick to even digest what was going on.

  1. I didn't think it was sad, I found it really empowering. I have very different opinions on Torvalt and Nora compared to what I thought of them at the beginning of the play. I was wrong when I said that Torvalt loved her so much because the truth is he never did.
To answer your question, Nora decided to leave her husband because she realized the same thing I did. When she confessed what she had done, she expected him to defend her and protect her. Instead, he yelled at her and was only concerned with how her actions would affect him. When Nora witnessed this, she realized he never loved her and once she opened her eyes at that, she was able to see the rest of the truth. Their marriage was based on fulfilling their gender roles and not on love.
