response to "live-in Cook"

I think this story is very interesting because just like "Night Thoughts" it talks about the struggles that mans have and the way society sees them.Bihn was a live-in cook but he struggled a lot to get someone to hire him just because he was a man. Our society has established for us that certain jobs are "only made for woman" therefore if a man wants to take that job such as being a cook it is very hard for someone to take him. .

  1. Are there other factors that contribute to Binh having difficulty with finding work? Do you think majority of cooks are women or men?

  2. In Response to what Anthony W. Asked about that if Bihn wasn't homosexual would he even have a job? Well, in my opinion I don't think your sexuality should be something that can interfere if you get a job or not. When you have the desire, and you love what you do, then there is no reason not to follow your dreams and make them reality. Look at Bihn despite of what the society has said that some jobs are “made for woman” him as a cook was able to prove everyone he was able to do it.

  3. I agree, Cristal but what types of stereotypes surround the work of cooking? As you note, our society labels certain jobs as either male or female appropriate. How does this affect Binh?
