The poem" To His Coy Mistress"  seems to be one of love and passion. The man is speaking of his love for a women. He speaks of how he adores her and does not want to wait to have her love. The young man feels time isn't on there side and if anything should happen sooner is better than later. His lady however seems as if though she is rather reserved. Interesting piece.

Emily Dickinson's my life stood a loaded gun to me seems like a women protecting her love . Seems like the writer is metaphorically speaking of how she feels for a man to her readers. She uses terms such as "guarding the masters head" and him living longer than she does. That sounds like a poem of a women deeply in love with a man.

  1. Interesting- why do you think the speaker in Marvell's poem is a young man, and not an older man? Can you identify a line where the speaker says he loves the mistress?
If the woman is protecting her love in Dickinson's poem, why is the man she loves referred to as 'owner' and 'master'?
