Connections between the two
I believe both short stories have a connection because its perspectives from a males point of view the way they are not allowed to think in society and be accepted. One reason i think there is a connection is because i feel like both the main characters are homosexuals.Another reason why i believe this is also because both of the men are thinking about these thoughts and seem to question about their lives a little too much. Trying to escape the things they are dealing with even its through liquor or not sleeping at night.

bihh is homosexual they try to hind it in there story but its there look on page 481... in the other story i don't think the man is gay i think the author was just trying to flip the he/her stereotypes of society.
ReplyDeleteReview my comments to your previous post about your claims regarding the father/husband in "Night Thoughts" being a homosexual. I'm not sure what you mean by "Another reason why i believe this is also because both of the men are thinking about these thoughts and seem to question about their lives a little too much."? is this your argument for the claim that both male characters are homosexuals? The two men questioning their lives--what does this reveal? Does the father/husband choose not to sleep at night?
ReplyDeleteAnthony- good use to text to support the claim about Binh's homosexuality. Can you say a bit more about the "flip [of] the he/her stereotypes of society" in "Night Thoughts"?
ReplyDeleteI did notice the connection between the two as well. It shows that Binh is interested in men, and for Night thoughts, there is nothing that references to homosexuality. When I first read Live-In cook, I was picturing a female. But what I dont agree with is people thinking these protagonists are gay. Just because they have certain feelings, doesnt make them homosexual. I understand certain roles usually being played by certain genders, but feelings and perspectives shouldnt be.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Christy. Your point about feelings and perspectives is important to note as we often tend to label feelings(in general, having emotions) as feminine and having a perspective(as in having opinions and views, and standing by those) as masculine.
