Karolina Rak- "Live- In Cook"
Binh is a person who is kind of just going with the flow. He has lived in Paris for the past three years, against his will, one could say. He seems very unhappy and just burdened with the thought of being someone's cook in Paris. All the interviews and questions that have been piled upon him, really seem to overwhelm him and he seems to be over this whole lifestyle.

Interesting- why do you say Binh has been living in Paris against his will? Could you provide textual support for the claim "He was exiled from Indochina thanks to his mother's mishaps"? Can you explain what you mean by "interviews and questions that have been piled upon him"? What is "this whole lifestyle" which you say he is over?
ReplyDeleteNot that he is living against his will, however he does not seem thrilled to be there. He has been with the two American ladies for the past five years, and their relationship isn't too friendly but not completely unbearable. In the beginning, he explained how he preferred the silent, no thank you and goodbye, instead of the 21 questions game that some interviewers gave him.
ReplyDeleteI think we can explore the idea that Binh feels trapped in his job with the two American women. Think back to the first sentence with which "Live in Cook" begins, and how that requirement of the job makes Binh feel? Possibly contribute to his drinking?
ReplyDeleteAlso the "silent thank you" types do not hire him and the ones who ask a lot of questions might? Which category do the two American women fall into?
