Daniella Female to male Ortner's thoughts.

I understand Ortner's opinion to be a general view of the man and female. Yet, I feel as if in today's society woman have shown great resistance to her opinion. To me its almost as if she is saying because of how our bodies are made up we are weaker or our male counterparts view us that way. According to Orton we are weaker due to our connection with nature and "being more connected to species". Though we may be more connected whether it be social or physical it is because we create it. If not for a women there would be no birth, so Yes we will be more attached to nature for we make it grow. Society tends to feel that women in high positions aqquired their role by "acting like a man", but she is still a women physically. All the same body functions that is claimed to make her inferior she still has. In some cultures women are inferior to men but I also feel it's because they allow themselves to be. Times have changed and there is almost nothing that can make women inferior if so it comes down to the individual.

  1. I agree that much has changed in our society, and we-both men and women- have made some progress towards equality. But is it Ortner who pronounces women as weaker or this is how she says women are commonly viewed in most cultures? Doesn't she provide examples and cite research which debunks the claim that women are weak?
