My Life had stood- a Loaded Gun

During the 1800s women had no voice, they had to wait for their owner or husband to pick them. Once they are living together they have to do whatever they are told. They same thing with a gun, it does not move until their owner moves it. I believe that there is two different way to interpret this poem, a woman feeling like she is not a person but an object.

  1. So do you think the relationship between the gun and the owner is similar to that of a marriage? And if the gun is the wife/woman, then how what does it mean that this poem is written from the perspective of the gun, as if the gun were speaking?
