My Life Had Stood - a loaded gun
It seems to me that the main character in the poem describes how he looks upon "the owner" . The character describes him as "My Master". I also identified in the last stanza that he describes himself as a guardian for the master and how he would sacrifice himself for his master to live on, "Though I than He- may longer live, he longer must-than I- for I have the power to kill, without-the power to die-" (581). This is a very deep and brave poem.

Why is this poem brave? Who is the speaker, rather than the main character, in this poem? Can the speaker really sacrifice himself for the master? The speaker says that "for I have the power to kill, without -the power to die"(23-24) which suggests the speaker is immortal?
