Sweat
I definitely thought the reading was a little hard to understand and read due to the language, but from what I was able to understand Skye was just picking at Delia to make her miserable. He had no respect for her and just made her everyday life so much harder. But in the end karma hits him back with his prank he was pulling to scare Delia. I also believed that Skye never acted like a man of the house and was unappreciative of the hard work Delia would provide for their home.

Why do you think Hurston chose to include two variations of the English language? Who, in the story, speaks the language that is 'a little hard to understand'? Yes, Sykes mistreats and abuses Delia to make her miserable, but he has a motive, according to Delia. What is that motive? Also, consider the time period the story is set in and who is deferred to as the authority, and maybe that will provide some more insight into the conflict in the Jones' marriage?
